The course will primarily focus on written business communication, but will also cover some aspects of oral business communication. Fundamental to any communication course and especially to business communication is the idea that writers/ speakers need to know how to adapt to the rhetorical context, which includes auidence, subject, purpose and media. In this course students will practice exercizing critical reading, thinking and writing skills. Course Description The goals of this course include: - Understanding how a writer/speaker adapts to the business discourse community
- Using strategies appropriate to professional discourse generally used by the business community
- Critically analyzing discouse patterns and strategies generally in use in the business community
- Developing methods of inquiry that allow students to continue to research, question, read, write, and reflect on professional discursive practices once they enter the working world
- Understanging how proper grammar and syntax is necessary for successful business communication
- Acquiring and using grammatical forms and sentence structure appropriate to professional discourse generally used by the business community
The course will cover four major fields of business communication: - Employment package

- P.R. correspondence
- In-house correspondence
Lecturer Jagoda Poropat Darrer is in process of becoming lecturer in the Department of Marketing and Communication and in the Department of Foreign Languages at Zagreb School of Economics and Management. She received her Masters degree from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, and is currently attending Ph.D. program at the same University. For past few years holds several undergraduate courses at ZSEM such as Business Communication and Rhetoric, specializing herself in a field at the John Carroll University, USA and many other seminars in Croatia. She also translated and participated in translation of several books on communication and business communication. As ZSEM professor she is a member of International Association of Business Communicators trying to show and lead her students through the best global communication practices, ideas and experiences that will enable them to develop highly ethical and effective performance standards in their professional lives always using the most recent and advanced information technology.
